Kidney Stone Analysis

There are four major types of kidney stones that we find during analysis: metabolic, infectious, genetic, and treatment induced. Metabolic kidney stones that are made of calcium are the most common. The second most common stones are associated with an infection by a urea splitting bacteria. Genetic stones, like cystine are very rare and are formed due to a genetic defect or deficiency. Treatment induced stones are formed as a result of the treatment performed on the patient.

Examples of Metabolic stones listed below:

  • Calcium Oxalate Monohydrate
  • Calcium Oxalate Dihydrate
  • Calcium Phosphate

Infectious stones examples listed below:

  • Magnesium Ammonium Phosphate
  • Calcium Phosphate Carbonate
Examples of Genetic stones listed below:
  • Cystine
  • 2,8 Hydroxyadenine

Treatment induced examples listed below:

  • Tramterene (hydrochlorothiazide)
  • Ammonium Acid Urate (laxatives)
  • Xanthine (allopurinol)
  • Other Drug Metabolites!
